Rip Curl Grom Search 2011

For those of us who don't get up to New smyrna Beach that often this is a real treat.  I would say the hardest part of CS is lugging all the tents, tables, food, containers of CS stuff... to the beach from the parking lot.  the joy of New Smyrna Beach is being able to drive on the beach and right up to the venue.  All you do is pull into your parking space, open the trunk and start to unload. 

Surf this year was almost not there at all but with the incoming tide there was a bump to surf and these kids light it up.

The best 16 and under amateur surfers around the Sunshine State congregated to the short stretch of beach just south of New Smyrna Inlet last Saturday, Aug. 13th in hopes of adding a Rip Curl GromSearch Title to their resume. The small conditions favored those lighter on their feet and quicker through each maneuver. The local knowledge of young ripper Noah Schweizer elevated him to victory.

“I’ve surfed in these conditions so many times I guess I just know what to do,” said Noah of his performance in the final. “I’m excited to get the win and the opportunity to compete in San Francisco for the National Final.”

The 14 and under would see another local Smyrna boy, Daniel Glenn, take victory over west coast rival Colin Deveze. Colin made a last minute push, which proved too little too late against Daniel’s two solid scores. Luke Marks, put on a clinic in his Boys 12 and under final and came out dominant, while also locking in a fourth place finish in the Boys 14 and under division.

In the ladies 16 and under division, Chelsea Tuach put on an impeccable performance posting the highest single wave in any final with a 9.33. With that score Chelsea had the others against the ropes, solidifying the win and her spot at the Rip Curl GromSearch National Final Somewhere in San Francisco during the Rip Curl Pro Search in November.

Eros Exarhou nabbed the H2O Overdrive Maneuver of the Event with a crafty Super Man, while Joshua Burke took home $50 in cash for the Dragon High Heat Total of 17.3.
